In case of bad weather...

Here is some information about inclement weather and practices:

1. If it is only raining, we will still have practice. The swimmers get wet anyway, so they won't have a problem. Only the coaches will be affected... :-)

2. If we need to cancel practice because of lightening, we will post it on Twitter and on this blog, so check both before you head to the pool.

3. If it starts lightening while your swimmers are in the pool practicing - we will take the swimmers inside the building and they will call you.

4. If a swim meet needs to be cancelled, we will post that on Twitter and this blog also. Sometimes meets need to be canceled while we are at the meet. In that case, our team commissioners will make the decision.

I think that's it for weather-related information. If you have any questions, feel free to ask any of the coaches.

2013 Summer Swim Information

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR RHODES SUMMER SWIM TEAM!!!

Head Coach - Kirsten Pickering – 901-652-4540, kirsten.pickering@gmail.com
Assistant Coaches - Molly Pickering, Karl Schwab, Kristin Dunn, Anne Medved
Parent Representatives – Katy Leopard (kmleopard@gmail.com) and Camille Gamble (auburn92@gmail.com)
Twitter - @rhodeslynx

I want to welcome to all our returning swimmers and parents, as well as our new swimmers and parents!  The other coaches and I are looking forward to a great summer!  There is some important information for all of you below, so please take the time to look through it.

New Swimmers: It is a requirement that your child can swim one length of the pool, some form of freestyle and face in the water (no doggy paddling), without holding onto the side.

This blog will be how we communicate with you.  Any information we need to get to you (especially if practice is cancelled due to a thunderstorm) will be distributed through this medium, so check it often.  The meet schedule is also posted on the blog.  There will be no emails.

In addition, our twitter account will show the same information and is sometimes faster as far as cancellations go. If you have a twitter account, please follow us.

We will be trying something different this summer.  Instead of signing the book for which meets you will miss, you will instead sign up for the meets you will compete in.  Starting the first week of practice, there will be a roster with everyone’s name and you will check the meets that your child will be at.  IF YOU DO NOT INDICATE YOU WILL BE HERE, YOUR CHILD WILL NOT BE ENTERED INTO THE MEET!  For USS swimmers, Lori Patterson has volunteered to be our parent liaison, so please let her know which meets you will be at (or feel free to text me), and she will let me know so we make sure your swimmers are in the meet.

Parents, please sign up to work the meets. We cannot run the meets without you and we have lots of jobs at the home meets and away meets. If you know you want something specific sign up early. Please sign up for something at every meet.

Our last meet is the City Meet on July 27.  We need EVERYONE to participate!

PRACTICE WILL BEGIN MAY 28 and are Mondays - Thursdays.  Practice times listed below:
8-9am – 9 and 10s and Camp Lane
8:45-10am – 11 and ups
10-10:40am – 8 and unders

Please do not forget to get your swimmer a pair of fins. They will need them. The younger kids especially will use them often. You can get them through All-American, who also provides our suits, and will be at practice May 28 and June 3, or swimoutlet.com. Please make sure your child's name is on both fins.

Our goals for the summer are:
1. Stroke instruction and improvement
2. Time improvement
3. Good sportsmanship with teammates and opponents
4. HAVE FUN!!!!!

Coach Kirsten
