Hello Rhodes Swim Team!

Many of you have registered for the Summer 2014 season but MANY of you have not!  We will have laptops at the kick off party for folks to use to register but to avoid lines waiting to use them PLEASE go ahead and register NOW at  www.rhodesswimteam.com

We will NOT be using this blog in the future to communicate with you so please go to our new fancy website  (link above) and register so you will get our emails etc.  This new website has all of our meet information, party information, an on-line store where you can buy spirit wear, and volunteer sign ups for each meet.  We will be TOTALLY paperless this season!

The Kick Off Party is Sunday, May 18th 4 - 7pm at the Rhodes Pool.  Pizza will be provided and if your last name begins with A - P bring a side to share, Q - Z bring a dessert.  You can pay at that time and we will have swim suits you can try on so you will know what size to order.  We have COOL new suits this year!

Spring Warm Up at Rhodes will be May 12 - 22nd Monday through Thursday 4 - 5pm and the cost is $80.  Coach Charlie Boehme from Rhodes will run the warm up program and it is a GREAT way for your swimmer to get used to being back in the water before the team begins official practices the 26th.  Email Coach Charlie if you are interested at boehmec@rhodes.edu

Finally, if you know ANYONE who might be interested in swimming this summer PLEASE forward this email to them.  We want to have the BIGGEST team ever this year!!!

Coach Carla Mabie has put together an awesome coaching staff who will be helping your kids learn to enjoy the wonderful sport of swimming!  Please feel free to email me at kmleopard@gmail.com or Carla cjmabie@me.com if you have any questions.  Look for ward to seeing you all on the 18th!

We are a team that serves all skill levels and commitment levels. Want to stay in the water all year and train for high school, middle school or summer league swimming?  We have a group for you! Want to get faster and become more competitive? We have a group for you. Come to our open house and meet Tiger coaches, have your swimmer evaluated for group placement and talk with a coach about what group is best for your swimmer.

For more information email: coachcheryl@gmail.com or call 901-218-6573

*** NEW GROUP ALERT!***- Want to stay in shape for middle school and summer league swimming? We have a great new group that is perfect for you! Junior Performance group is for the swimmer ages 10-13 that wants just that. Check it out!

Tiger Practice Groups
Gold Group This is an introduction to swimming for children ages 5-10 years old. The four competitive strokes are introduced along with training drills, fun games and a positive competitive spirit!
White Group This group begins to explore the competitive side of swimming. This group will refine the four competitive strokes and begin to learn starts and turns along with basic conditioning.
Red Group Introduction to training with a major focus on technique and skills development. Kicking will continue to be a focus and swimmers will be introduce to different aspects of competitive training.
Blue Group The blue group is designed for the advanced competitive swimmer.. The continuation of stroke refinement, basic conditioning, teamwork skills, goal setting, and a dry land program are included in the training regimen. This group further develops the concepts of workout structure, interval training, and aerobic conditioning.
Senior Group This group is the highest training level for experienced swimmers who are 13 & older and who are committed to high standards of training, in terms of practice attendance and practice intensity.  Acceptance is through invitation by the Head Swim Coach and requires minimum qualifying time(s), training test set, and attendance expectations. The group will be comprised of swimmers who have aspirations of competing on the National and International level.
Junior Performance Group This group is geared at the middle school swimmer who wants to swim middle-school and summer-league. It is perfect for those who want to continue swimming and stay in shape but do not have the desire for the 5-6 day a week commitment of blue group. This is great for multi-sport athletes and other busy kids. Members can come when they are able to.
Senior Performance Group This group offers any swimmer interested in competing on a High School Swim Team a great way to get a head start on the season, and to stay in shape in the off season.  For participants who may not be on a high school swim team, it offers a chance to swim in a group that is not as aggressive as the Senior group and to be a part of Memphis Tiger Swimming. Emphasis will be on general conditioning, stroke technique, starts, turns, and dry land. This group will be offered year round. Meets are not required but are optional.

End of the season

I just wanted to again express how much myself and the other coaches enjoyed this season. We really do have the best group of swimmers and parents.

I hope everyone had a good time, and will be back next season!

If you weren't at the end of the year party, make sure you get in touch with Katy Leopard to get your packet: if you're 10 and under, you have a trophy, and if you're 11 and up there is a Rhodes towel. In addition any ribbons or medals you got at City are in your folder. Everyone also has a paper plate award and times from the season.

We got 4th overall at City meet. Everyone who swam got at least one ribbon or medal, and everyone got at least one best time! I was very proud of everyone!

Congratulations on a great season, and be looking on the blog next spring for information about next summer!!!!
