Thanks!

Thank you to everyone for a great end of the season picnic/awards night! I'm sorry we had to get out of the pool early - darn thunder!!!!

Here are the "official" results from the City Meet. It's 63 pages, so you probably don't want to print it off!!!!

I had a great summer and I hope you all did too! I know there are always things we can improve on, so if you have any suggestions for next summer, please let me know!

I hope you will all keep swimming during the winter. There are many opportunities to join teams in the Memphis area. Obviously, we LOVE the Tigers Swim Team that practices at University of Memphis, but there are other programs too. We saw the Thunder Team in action at the City Meet (they are the ones who hosted the meet); Bartlett Rec Center has a team; Germantown has a team; there is a small team in Cordova (called Dova Swim Team). So lots of teams for you to choose from! :-)

For those of you in Middle School, there is a swim league for you too! You get to compete against other Middle Schools in the Memphis area.

What ever you decide to do, I hope you will come back to Rhodes next summer for another round of summer swimming with us!!!

Love to you all

Coach Molly

Marking your swimmer

Here is the information (with a picture) on how to mark your swimmer. This will help the clerk of course get your swimmer to the correct heat and lane!

Tomorrow - Friday - we will practice at St George's in the evening to help us get used to their pool. All 10 and younger swimmers will practice from 5 - 6pm and the 11 & up swimmers will practice from 6 - 7 pm

I'm hoping they will have heat sheets for sale tomorrow night, if not you will need to buy one on Saturday morning. The cost is $5.00

IMPORTANT - some of the relays have been switched around, so check this out!!!

City Meet entries

You will find your swimmers events HERE

You can also see the "psych sheet" HERE

The heat sheets will be for sale for $5.00 at the meet on Saturday and hopefully at Friday nights practice.

Remember to "tag" your swimmer with their first initial and last name on the back of their right shoulder. This helps the clerk of course line up the right kids in the right heats/lanes.

Time line for the meet

You can find the TIMELINE for the meet here. It is a pretty good estimate on what time everything will happen.
We will get a warm up lane assignment on Friday - probably during our practice time at St George's. Just to remind you - 6 & unders, 7 & 8, and 9 & 10 boys will swim in the morning session. Warm ups will be from 7am to 7:45. The meet starts at 8:00.
The rest of the team will swim in the afternoon session. Warm ups will start at 12:00 and the meet starts at 1:00pm.
It's going to be a GREAT MEET!!! You might consider volunteering to time, so you're not just sitting around.... :-)

Let me know if you have any questions or problems...

This week!

Hey everyone!
It's the last week of swim practice for the summer! I will definitely miss you all!!!

So here is some information about what's coming up:
On Friday we are arranging some lane time at St George's so we can practice in the pool where the meet will be on Saturday. If you have never been there, it's a great way to get accustomed to that place. It's pretty big... :-) It will probably be between 5pm and 7pm (an hour for the little kids and an hour for the big kids).

Saturday - the BIG MEET - warm ups for the morning session will start at 7:00am UGH!
This is for all 6 & unders, 7 & 8's and boys 9 & 10. The meet will actually start at 8:00am.
The rest of the team will swim in the afternoon session. You need to be there at 12:00 for your warm ups. That part of the meet will start at 1:00pm.

We WILL need timers for each session - 10 people for morning and 10 for afternoon. If you would volunteer for a 2 hours shift, that would be VERY MUCH APPRECIATED!!! Email Maria Srnka (msrnka33@gmail.com) or let her know at practice. THANKS!!

I'll post the heat sheet as soon as I get it.

Here is my cell number if any problems arise: 901-652-4275

Sunday, we will have our picnic/awards ceremony. It will be at Rhodes from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. The kids can bring their suits (and parents too) to swim. We will eat (food is provided!), give out awards and then have some fun!!!

It's been a great summer for me and I hope you too!!!

See you at the pool

Bluff City Results

Note: Save us $25 per swimmer... let Coach Irene ASAP know if you are NOT swimming... entries are due at noon Friday, July 15th. So as early as possible, if you haven't already let Maria or Irene know, now is the time... Also, a no show swimmer creates havoc with the relays. So please, pipe up quickly!

Now for the results - BCBF 489 Rhodes 320

Triple winners:
9/10 girls Sarah Harris RHO
9/10 boys Jacob Tims  RHO
11/12 boys Joe Hodges RHO
13/14 boys Alex Ruleman  BCBF
15/19 boys Collin Dowling  BCBF
15/19 girls Samantha Brown  RHO

We had a good meet despite our trials and tribulations... rain, power outage, equipment malfunction…! And love that 80 degree weather!

BLUFF CITY PARKING & COMBINED HEAT SHEET

The combined heat sheet is here.

Note: The overflow parking will be on the streets beside and behind the Y instead of in the unmowed field. Apparently the neighbors don't like streetside parking, but it's legal. BCBF parents will be there to direct traffic.  See! That's one job we're glad we don't have! Makes timing look like a piece-a cake!

RHODES GOES TO BLUFF CITY

Rhodes will swim the Bluff City Blue Fins at the East Memphis YMCA (5885 Quince) for the last dual meet of the season. The heat sheet without the combined events is here, so swimmers can see which events they will be swimming. I will try to post the combined heat sheet early Thursday afternoon, if you want to check back on the blog to print out the heat sheet with the combined events.

Be prepared for the parking situation. Bluff City is asking you to pull in from Quince, drop off swimmers and gear by the pool, then park in a remote lot. They will have parents directing traffic. Try to arrive closer to 4:30 so you have enough time to unload, park, and walk. Also, you may want to bring folding chairs to supplement the bleachers by the pool. We are typically on the south side of the pool.

Bluff City is famous for their BBQ Nachos!

CITY MEET EVENTS & GUPPY RESULTS

1. If you are NOT swimming in the meet, please make sure that you have signed the book or contacted Coach Irene. Entries cost $25 per swimmer, so we don't want to write a check for a swimmer with no intention of swimming!

2. To swim in the city meet you must fill out a Memphis Summer Swim League (MSSL) City Championship Registration Form ASAP. If you are unable to fill out the form because you're out of town, let Maria or Irene know.

3. Kids will be allowed 4 individual events at the City Meet. Although coaches will ultimately decide which events your swimmer will best contribute towards the team's overall performance, please let one of the coaches know if  you have a preference, so that we can take it into consideration. Entries are due Friday, so let us know as soon as possible.

4. If for some reason you can’t be at practice, email Coach Irene at ihodges@udallas.edu.

5. Rhodes finished the Guppy Meet in 5th Place with 411 points behind Bluff City, Colonial, Memphis Country Club, and Ridgeway and ahead of Windyke, UClub, Racquet Club, Germantown CC, and Chickasaw. Congratulations to Sydney Srnka and Grace Beaumont for bringing home high point trophies in their 7/8 age group. Sydney was 2nd place with 55 points. Grace was 3rd with 49 points. Standard Breaker ribbons will be distributed with City Meet ribbons & medals at the Awards Cook-out. Here are the Guppy Meet Results. Yay, Rhodes!

Guppy Meet Heat Sheet

Print out Heat Sheet is here.  Heat sheets will not be for sale at the meet.

(Note: Bluff City published a revised Heat Sheet which is posted here. If you logged on earlier, there were enough changes to warrant an update. This is the version you need).

Warm up at 6:00pm, meet begins at 6:30pm.
Meet is at the East Memphis Y.

It looks like the meet will last about 2 1/2 hours. It will be a lot of fun for the swimmers! We brought home a team trophy last year!!!! :-)

Coach Irene and Coach Karl will be there to help you get to your events.

You might want to bring a chair and some light snacks. They will have concessions there also.

Swimmers who "break the standard" will be given a special award!

Good luck to you all!!!

Results from last night's meet

Good Friday Morning everyone!

It was a great meet last night! Thanks to all the parents who tirelessly help out to make our meets run smoothly!!! You are the BEST PARENTS ever!!!

Of course, we won the meet! :-) We had quite a few triple winners:
Madeline Hayes
Davis McGhee
Claire Pelligrin
Jackson Hayes
Lauren Mabie
Alex Robinson
Claire Sentilles
Julia Mathews
Seamus Fitzhenry
Sam Warren
Laura Mathews
Samantha Brown
Drayton Carlisle

I counted 97 Season Best Times last night!!! WOW - you all were really "cookin" last night!!!! Congrats to you all!!! I am so proud of you!

HERE are your "official" times from your swims.

You can also see your SEASON BEST TIMES (so far) HERE

Our next meet is against Bluff City. They will be LARGE and FAST. We beat them last year (barely) at our pool, but we will have to work our "butts" off this week to make that happen again! But I know you all are up to the task!!!!
Let's Go Rhodes!!!

The City Meet is fast approaching. If there is any event you REALLY WANT to swim just let your coach know this week!!! We will put you in your strongest events, but if you think we might miss something, please tell us.

Have a great weekend!!!!

Thursday's Meet

Good evening!
Here is the Heat Sheet for the meet tomorrow. There will be some events that are combined with others (especially relays and older kids events), so be looking for some changes tomorrow when you arrive at the meet.

We REALLY NEED some more volunteers for this meet. It's our last home meet of the season and we would like to put on a "good show" for our visitors. All the jobs are easy to do, no experience necessary, and you only have to work for 1/2 of the meet. So if you will be leaving early, then you only have to work the first part of the meet. See Tracy Word for job assignments.

For those of you swimming at the City Meet, there are a couple of forms for you to sign before you leave the meet tomorrow night. See Maria Srnka to sign the form!!!!!

That's it for tonight! Let's have a great meet tomorrow night!
Go Rhodes! Beat Chickasaw!!!

See you at the pool

Meet results

You can find the "official" times from Thursdays meet HERE

I have also posted each swimmers season best times (as of July 1). All times are in "meters" not "yards". This is just for your information. Some swimmers like to keep track of how they are improving throughout the summer. You can find that document HERE

TWO THINGS:
1. Remember, Guppy meet entries are due on Tuesday at practice - money and events

2. We need to know this week if you will NOT be here for the City Championship Meet. The entry money is due this week and we don't want to pay for you if you won't be there! If you have already signed the book, we are good! You can always email me at btwcoach@gmail.com

Thanks and have a wonderful 4th of July!!!!

Triple winners

What a meet last night!!!

First of all, congratulations to our triple winners:
Madeline Hayes
Davis McGhee
Claire Pellegrin
Jackson Hayes
Francie Sentilles
Rick Reinhard
Samantha Brown
Laura Mathews

Everyone swam AWESOME!!! We had MANY best times in all events! It was great to see you all get up and COMPETE with those Colonial swimmers!

I think a SPECIAL THANKS goes to Coach Karl for taking on the biggest challenge of all - swimming against Colonial's Coach Korey!!! What a way to end the meet! If you left early and didn't see that race, well, you missed a great event!
The meet was tied at the end of the last race, so we had a coach's race for the WIN!!! And Karl came through for us!

RHODES LYNX - we ARE the best!!!!

I'll post the "official" times tomorrow.

Have a great weekend AND REMEMBER - no practice Monday (Happy 4th!) ALSO - the Guppy Meet entries and money are due on Tuesday at practice!
Thanks

Coach Molly
